iPod In A Museum At Only Six Years Old
03.30.07 - 09:20am
Let’s face it - most things that go on museum displays have either been around for a while or are extremely rare like a painting. The iPod has only been around for six years with over 70 million of them playing in someone’s pocket at the moment, nevertheless the iPod has been chosen by the Design Museum in London along with the cheese grater and the whistling kettle to mark the museum’s 25th anniversary.
The reason the iPod is there at such a young age is because this is a design exhibition, and the iPod has become an absolute icon of design. The museum invited 25 designers to select an object they believe represents the best, or most characteristic design of the last 25 years.
“The exhibition will offer a fascinating overview of the most important moments and developments in designers and design commentators,” a spokesman for the museum said.
Other featured items include a Freeplay wind-up radio, Achile Castigilioni’s Dry Flatware, and Alan Fletcher’s version of the Lloyd’s of London Books and brochure.
The exhibit will run until June 22nd.
