Kleer Announces Truly Wireless Headphone Design

Kleer announced today the first ever reference design for small form factor wireless earphones. These earphones would not only play for 10 hours, but are untethered without any wires connecting the right and left ear, or to the player. They would also have an iPod adaptor and would allow more than one listener to listen to the player at a time.

Kleer will be exhibiting the design at CES 2007. The design is based on the company’s KLR3012 RF audio module. The design will provide manufactures with the baseline set of technical information needed to bring these wireless headphones to market.

“We’re hearing from consumer electronics manufacturers that wireless earphones is the most requested feature in the portable audio market today,” said Ron Glibbery, VP of Marketing for Kleer. “Due to the high power consumption of existing wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, cumbersome over-the-ear style headphones are required to accommodate a large battery. Kleer’s wireless earphone design uses only one-tenth of the power of a comparable Bluetooth design, so our battery size requirements are much smaller.
