Did Apple Copy The iPhone Design?

No this is not a picture of the Apple iPhone. Looks like it though doesn’t it? The Prada Phone by LG, which was released today is being said to potentially be the iPhone’s twin.

The KE850 LG Prada Phone won the International Forum Design Award for 2007 back in December. It, like the iPhone, is a completely touch screen mobile phone. The Prada Phone even disappears similar to the iPhone revealing a pure un-adulterated black exterior. It is almost the same thickness 12mm. The iPhone is 11.6mm.

The question of whether a lawsuit will be filed against Apple for design copying could be likely. Prada and LG seemed to be very proud of their design and focused on it in their press release.

LG President and CEO Dr Scott Ahn says ““We at LG are exceptionally proud of the PRADA Phone by LG. The two companies have worked together seamlessly towards a truly shared vision, to develop one of the most beautifully stylish handsets the market has ever seen.

Visiting LG Headquarters in Seoul, Korea, Mr. Patrizio Bertelli, President and CEO of PRADA, said: “As we do with ready-to-wear and accessories, we were looking at a break-through. Consistent with our approach, we are not branding an existing product; rather, Miuccia and I have been working with LG to give this new phone a very strong character and unique style, both in its contents and in its design. We, just like our partners at LG, are known for the attention to detail and uncompromising quality of our products. And we find these characteristics in the new mobile phone.”

The Prada phone has one other thing the iPhone has as well, an MP3 player. It carries an array of additional multimedia functions including music multitasking function for messaging, external memory slot which allows user to increase memory capacities. It also has video, macromedia flash and document viewer.

The phone is being released in mobile dealerships as well as Prada stores. In February the UK, France, Germany and Italy will carry it as well. It will then be launched across Asia. The phone is retailing for 600 Euros or $776.52. That’s Prada for you. At least it makes the iPhone price seem minimal.
