First iPod With Music Pre-loaded, To Be Sold In India

The age of iPods sold with pre-loaded songs on them has begun, in India, with the soundtrack for the Oscar nominated film Water.
“Any 1GB iPod Shuffle that will be purchased by a consumer will have a pre-packed CD of Water and 78 additional songs composed by A R Rahman,” says HCL marketing head Pankaj Chopra.
Formerly, Apple could not sell their music pre-loaded onto the iPod due to the 26 year court fight over the Apple name between the Beatles, founders of Apple Corp. In initial agreements with the Beatles, Apple was only allowed to sell devices, not actual music. Itunes got around this because it sold digital music “by intangible means” and the earlier agreement had said they could not sell music in the “physical” or “tangible” media - i.e. tapes or CDs.
Earlier this month the Beatles and Apple settled their differences, and now Apple is free to sell music in the “tangible” media, i.e. via pre-loaded on the iPod. Even the U2 iPod was sold with the music still having to be downloaded from a computer.
The first ever pre-loaded iPod Shuffle, with music “Water”, will be released across India by Ravi Chopra on March 9, and will be available at all Planet M stores.
