iTunes Moves Out Of The Eye And Back Into European Hurricane Winds

Since Steve Jobs proudly declared they would love to offer their iTunes music to anyone as long as DRM’s were no longer required and they didn’t have to worry about security breaches little has been heard from Europe about iTunes compatibility, but it would seem the battle is not over and perhaps was only on a lunch break.

Meglana Kuneva, the European Union’s Consumer Chief spoke outright against iTunes and the iPod in an interview Monday saying “”Do you think it’s fine that a CD plays in all CD players but that an iTunes song only plays in an iPod? I don’t. Something has to change.”

The comments against iTunes have been played as “her personal opinion” by a commission spokeswoman who also said it was just the start of the debate.

It is a debate that has been playing for a long time in Europe and Norway has given Apple till October to open up iTunes or face court.

Currently Kuneva is leading a review of eight basic laws that govern cross-border consumer rights in Europe.
