A new survey released by Markitecture puts sales of the iPhone in a good light.
The survey of 1,300 people found that 6 percent would likely by the iPhone within a year. To put this in the billion cell phone market perspective Markitecture says “The highly successful Motorola RAZR, after its launch in 2004, achieved a 6 percent market share at its peak.”
The survey also reported how the more people heard about the iPhone the more they liked it. 11 percent said there was a 50-50 chance or better they would buy the iPhone in the next year. The main reason the other 89 percent said they had less than a 50-50 chance, with two-thirds saying no chance was due to the cost. The second reason was due to having to switch carriers.
“Purchase intent was far higher for AT&T/Cingular customers than it is for customers of other carriers,” the report said, “roughly twice as likely when compared to Sprint Nextel, T-
Mobile, or Verizon Relevant Products/Services customers.”
People who were very familiar with the iPhone 83 percent had an “excellent or very good impression. Those who were just familiar, not very familiar, had 41 percent saying, “excellent or very good” with 21 percent saying it is “fair or poor.” Good news for the iPhone as it is always better if familiarity breeds respect rather than contempt.
