Free of DRM but not free of tracking info - It has been discovered that the free of DRM Fairplay tracks have embedded within them the full name and account information, e-mail address included, of those who bought them.
The data could be used to track users who put the files on file-sharing sites, and while there is a lot of screaming going on about the accessibility of the information, it should be noted that the information was always there, even on the DRM tracks, yet since you couldn’t share the DRM tracks, it was not an issue.
Reportedly the tracks won’t play if the information is stripped out or if a phony name is inserted. Of course hackers are all over this trying to devise a way to strip and spoof the information.
In spite of the uproar over the issue, everything really should be the same as always unless you share the files and then others could have use of your information.
