HTC “Touches” Down First, Just Ahead Of The iPhone
06.05.07 - 01:13pm

All about the iPhone and it’s new touch screen or maybe not - today HTC has introduced a similar phone with similar touch screen capabilities and for about the same price.
The phone seems to be aimed at anyone who doesn’t want to sign up with Apple and AT&T and will be released in Europe a full six months before the iPhone.
“With the HTC Touch, access to your most commonly used content, contacts and features is only a simple finger flick away,†said Peter Chou, chief executive officer of HTC. “Mobile phone makers have done a great job of cramming ever-more exciting features into ever-smaller phones. But the way in which one accesses these increasingly sophisticated features has not kept pace. That ends today with the HTC Touch.â€
The phone uses TouchFLO which allows for finger scrolling and panning, perhaps taking some of the wind out of the iPhone’s sails who have claimed to be the first to offer such technology. It also features the Touch Cube which is a unique user interface for quick dialing and easy navigation.
The phone of course has all the entertainment features with music and movies, internet browsing, Push E-mail, and 2 megapixel camera. The screen measures 2.8″, and it has 5 hours of talk time with 200 hours of standby. It also has a built in microphone and 3-in-1 speaker. It works with Windows Mobile 6 and comes with a 1GB microSD memory card for storing your media files.
The phone features a new interactive Today screen which comes with a free weather client for viewing weather in cities around the world and for flipping through different pieces of data.
The phone comes in black or wasabi green, is only 13.9mm thick, and weighs just 112 grams with the battery.
It is currently available in the UK with an Asian and Europe release set for later this month. It will be released in North and Latin America in the second half of 2007. It will be available through T-Mobile and Orange with more purveyors soon to follow. It has a $610 U.S. price tag.
