iPod Causes Wreck!
06.06.07 - 10:35am
Or rather, since an inanimate object can no more cause a wreck than money can be evil, it would appear the human being driving the car caused a wreck, while foolishly flipping through his iPod.
Christopher Brescio, 31, was driving on the Long Island Expressway when he became distracted by his iPod and slipped over to the shoulder where a tow truck driver was trying rescue a broken down armored truck.
The rest was like out of a movie. Doug Casale the tow truck operator saw the car coming toward him and was able to jump (just picture it in slow-mo!) onto the hood of the pickup truck as it got sideswiped. Grucci, a mechanic readying the armored truck for removal was working on the passenger side and got knocked backwards over the guardrail when the car hit. Fortunately he simply landed in the soft grass rather than falling down a ravine.
In the end only Brescio was hurt with minor injuries and everyone got home okay even if the right and center lanes of the expressway was blocked for who knows how many hours.
Brescio was ticketed with reckless driving.
Moral of the story - set your iPod before you drive or get a car adapter so you can work it without having to take your eyes off the road!
