AT&T & The iPhone Plans

The first iPhone calling plans have been announced from AT&T and they include 450 minutes for $59.99, 900 minutes for $79.99 and 1350 minutes for $99.99.
450 minutes doesn’t seem like much talking time as that is only 7 1/2 hours, which for a whole month isn’t much,(less than one charge of the iPhone battery is supposed to last), however AT&T’s first iPhone plan does also include unlimited mobile to mobile calling so the plan will work if all your friends and family are also in the AT&T network. Otherwise it’s just 22.5 minutes of talk time a day during the weekday peak hours, which really is extremely low, so better hope everyone you know is an AT&T customer.
The plans also includes unlimited data, visual voice mail, 200 SMS text messages, and roll-over minutes.
For the texters out there 200 text messages a month is nothing, so if you’re buying your kid the phone especially, be forewarned.
For the business man out there using the phone to make numerous calls the 1350 or 22 hours of talk time is much more practical, still an hour a day for peak weekday hours isn’t that much if you’re swinging deals on your cell phone.
For most the 900 min. or 15 peak hours of talk time will hopefully be enough, although that limits you to 45 min. a day so still not that much at all if the peak hours don’t end till after 9:00 p.m. which they usually do.
With the 900 and 1350 minute plans you get unlimited night and weekends, but with the 450 minute plan you only get 5000 off peak hour time minutes. You can also upgrade to 1500 text messages for $10.00 more or pay $15.00 for unlimited text messages.
There are also family plans available and perhaps there will be business orientated plans for those who will be using the phone a lot.
If you are already an AT&T customer you can upgrade your plan to an iPhone plan for an additional $20 a month.
The unlimited data is pretty sweet though as this includes e-mail and the web, so all you have to do is send e-mails rather than actually talk.
The phone is set to go on sale at 6:00 p.m. this Friday June, 29th. There is also a one-time activation fee of $36.
