How Many iPhones Are Left?
07.02.07 - 12:53pm
The iPhone has launched and shouts of “I got it!” heard in the street began the evening of June 29th, a day destined to go down in history as iDay.
The launch of iDay had over 200,000 units going out the door. Over half the stores sold out in the first 24 hours and total over the weekend saw between 500,000 to 600,000 iPhones sold.
Harry E. Blount of Lehman brothers wrote, “There are 1,800 AT&T stores around the nation and we estimate that they each received 60-70 iPhones for the launch for a total of 108,000-126,000 phones in the U.S… We estimate that at least 154,000 were shipped in time for the launch to Apple stores in aggregate (177 stores as of March quarter). Given that most of them had sold out by Saturday that means Apple sold at least an estimated 270,000 phones (AT&T and Apple) in aggregate…”
Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster reported on the weekend writing, “Overall, Apple met strong demand over the weekend with adequate supply. We were surprised by the rate at which Apple was able to sell the handsets, with 50 cashiers processing up to 1,000 iPhones an hour in some stores.”
Munster also said that availability was good for the iPhone with 100 percent of Apple stores having them available on Saturday and 84 percent still having availability on Sunday. Monday however had all 1,8000 AT&T stores out of the iPhone and Apple stores having mixed availablity.
All of the Apple’s stores in California were out of the iPhone today, but in New York only one was out in Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, the other 11 stores in New York still had them. Seattle ran out at all stores but the University Village Apple Store (admittingly $600 is a lot for students). Dallas and Austin ran out in Texas but the other nine Texas Apple stores still had them this morning.
New Jersey and Connecticut still had iPhones in all stores this morning while Utah and Hawaii were out.
No word yet on when the next shipment of iPhones will be heading into the stores, but you can check after 9:00 p.m. to see what the availability will be for the next day on Apple’s website.
