What To Do If Your iPhone Breaks

Yea, I know - The iPhone breaking after only a few days! But, alas in a few cases it has happened and just in case it happens to you, this is what to do about it.

First - Don’t even attempt to take it to AT&T! While the company is already being derailed for their lousy iPhone connections it would also appear that their customer service, at least in regards to the iPhone is just as lousy. If you return the iPhone to them they will take it back, provided you give them a 10 percent restocking fee! They will not exchange it for a new one.

Take it to Apple instead. There (provided it’s within 30 days) they will give you a replacement for your “DOA” phone as long as they have one in stock. If they don’t or if you are past the 30 days you must complete a repair-by-mail process.

You do this by removing your SIM card, mailing the iPhone to Apple, where they will repair it and send it back.

One really lousy thing in the whole repair-by-mail process is that during this time you are either without a phone, or you pay a $29 iPhone rental fee till your repaired one arrives. Normally for phones under warranty there is no fee for a rental phone while a phone is being repaired, so its not something most people will expect.

You don’t have to worry about any data being left on your returned iPhone if it is repaired and resold - Apple has said all iPods and iPhones that are exchanged for replacement are wiped clean.
