The Cost Of The iPhone Battery

Testers of the iPhone found that if you use the iPod part, the web part and the phone part your battery would last about a full day without a charge.

Apple has said that the iPhone battery will last for 300 to 400 charges before it starts to die down. So approximately a year, less if you’re a heavy user.

Thus adding to the price of your iPhone will be at least one battery provided the phone lasts for the full two-year cell service contract with AT&T.

Your new battery will cost you $79 plus a $6.95 shipping and handling fee.

They way it must work, since you cannot replace the battery yourself (if you do try open the back the warranty is voided), is you must send the phone into Apple where they will replace the battery for you.

The battery will take approximately three days to replace. During this time you can either rent another iPhone for a $29 rental fee thus really making your battery replacement cost $114.95 or you must go without a phone for three days. Both are lousy.

No-one is happy to pay anything nowadays, but it will really depend on how you see the device. If you see it as a phone you would expect the battery to come out, but if you are thinking of it as an iPod you know the deal,” said Carolina Milanesi, a research director at analyst firm Gartner.

The iPhone comes with a warranty of one year with the option to purchase an extended warranty for two years for $69.

“I am sure that third-party suppliers offering solutions will not be put off, but as a consumer I would think twice before invalidating the warranty,” said Milanesi.
