The iPhone’s New Blackberry Competition

Here comes the iPhone, here comes the BlackBerry 8820, featuring all the iPhone isn’t.
The Blackberry 8820 may not have the swanky iPhone touch screen but it does have Wi-fi, easy access to email and web browsing, a bright 320 x 240 screen, built in GPS system, “Best in Class” voice and data function including voice dialing, ring tones, cut and paste, removable battery and all those other non-iPhone things. It also BlackBerry® Maps, a multi-media player, an organizer, expandable memory, and trackball navigation
It is the thinnest of all the smartphones still with a full sized keyboard and is the first dual-mode blackberry phone operating on both wi-fi and cellular networks.

It features all the renowned power and usability of the BlackBerry platform with executive class styling and unprecedented connectivity features, including cellular, Wi-Fi and built-in GPS,” enthused Mike Lazaridis, Research in Motion’s president and co-CEO. “The BlackBerry 8820 complements our carrier partners’ cellular networks with the added ability to stay connected via Wi-Fi at home, through hotspots and corporate campuses.”
What it doesn’t have is the iPhone “wow” factor - sorry but it is unlikely people will come up and ask if they can just touch your Blackberry, like they’re asking for an autograph nor will you have that amazing touch screen to marvel at but you will be able to take a video of someone else’s iPhone with your phone one more thing the iPhone can’t yet do.
The BlackBerry 8820 will be available from select wireless carriers around the world in the coming weeks. AT&T is scheduled to launch the BlackBerry 8820 in the U.S. later this summer. No word on pricing which will most likely fluctuate with contract.
