Nike Off And Running!

Nike is off and running, and running and running… Over 22 million miles to be exact, and in just under a year. A pretty far range to go even if you are in “super shape”.

Every day over 1000+ Nike runners track their runs using the Nike system + iPod which records their speed, distance, calories burned and even choreographs songs for them.

Nike is hoping to create new consumer experiences that are “physical, digital and mobile.”

In accordance with the Nike+, Nike also launched a matching website that along with tracking users data also acts as a social networking site and runners are using it in surprising numbers for socializing with other runners, especially as fun challenges for who can run faster, better, and stronger.

Nike will be expanding the social networking aspect of the site and will allow users to start uploading pictures to highlight thier challenges on a new “challenge feature” that will be released later this summer. “Users can choose their own challenge theme, set their own rules, and select the number of participants and team names,” writes the company. “Now, they will be able to upload their own pictures to highlight their challenges on the nikeplus homepage”.

“When you boil it down, the idea is pretty simple,” said Trevor Edwards, Nike’s Vice President of Global Brand and Category Management. “You want to know how far you went, however many calories you burned. It also allows you to participate and be a part of a wider community. For many others it’s a social experience, it’s allowed people to a part of something much bigger.”

Nike said that they will make all of their running shoes Nike+ compatible by the end of the year.
