iPhone Gets Instant Messaging

Today’s world is all about the instant chat perhaps best shown by the whole new language developed for text messaging. LOL, LHO, MIRL, NFM, P911, and BC are commonplace and the short synonyms are even bleeding over into written papers and becoming the new slang of written words.
Texting is particularly popular in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. In the Philippines it has become an extremely influential and powerful tool. The small island alone accounted for over 142 billion text messages in 2003 more than all the countries of Europe combined.
Europe is certainly not left out of the texting phenomenon however as they had an average of more than 16 billion text messages a month in 2003. Ireland itself sends an average of 114 text messages per person per month.
The U.S. is surprisingly a bit behind the phenomenon although it is rising. In 2003 only 13 text messengers were sent a month by the average user but that has risen exceptionally. In June of 2007 a record high was recorded by Verizon with 10 billion text messages being sent just by Verizon users.
Text messaging does cost money however whereas instant messaging using a web browser does not. It is the reason that the iPhone’s lack of IM, with the best web browser yet seen in a cell phone, was such a big deal, especially as its European debut loom close - but alas the problem is solved as many of the iPhone problems are being solved. If a company can fix a shortfall in the iPhone their name suddenly becomes known by millions and the company can ride the iPhone wave to success.
Such is the way with Geodesic who developed the Mundu IM. Geodisic says, “Mundu IM: iPhone Edition” is designed specifically for the iPhone, which, with all it’s advanced Web browsing capabilities, does not have a native instant messaging client.
Mundu Im allows users to have seamless chat across leading IM services including AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, and Google Talk.
Atul Chitnis, senior vice president for products, Geodesic, said, “Mundu IM: iPhone Edition not only demonstrates Geodesic’s ability to identify future markets, but also to leverage it’s technological prowess to rapidly create products needed by those markets.”
Mundu IM is free. Just go to the iphone.mundu.com and instant message all you like.
