iPods to be Used for Police Officers with Disabilities

Merseyside, England is leading the way with a new model to teach police officers highway codes. Police officers with disabilities such as dyslexia will be given the MP3 players for the first time in January. The MP3 players will hold 900 hours of information from the force’s training manual and will be used to download pictures of road signs and markings. Any officers that struggle to read all the paperwork will be given the audio replacement.

The program was put together by Louise Brennan, from the Merseyside Police and is being looked at as a model from 30 other forces nationwide who are keen to replicate the scheme. A police spokesman stated “The scheme is really worthwhile as it accommodates the needs of those officers with hidden disabilities such as dyslexia who would find it difficult to digest such a vast amount of information in written format.”
