iPhone Goes Bookish

The iPhone has been called the most innovative in your pocket PC ever made and everyone wants to be on the iPhone including book publishers.

Harper Collins has set up a special link just for the iPhone to allow browsers to view excerpts from 14 new books including Michael C. White’s “Soul Catcher”, Michael Korda’s “Ike,” a biography of President Eisenhower, Fay kellerman’s “The Burnt House” and Ray Bradbury’s “Now and Forever.”

The site was adapted for the iPhone by LibreDigital, a division of NewsStand, Inc. that has been working to digitize books for viewers worldwide.

“Reaching consumers on mobile devices and the Internet is increasingly important for publishers,” Brian Murray, president of HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide, said in a statement. “Our digital warehouse gives us the unique opportunity to quickly offer access to our titles on the newest technology, and we encourage people to provide feedback about their experiences.”

Viewers are allowed to see up to 10 pages of the first two chapters and are able to utilize the cool iPhones shrink and enlarge touch screen ability to create the print to their ideal reading specifications. They can then buy or pre-order the book through the mobile application.

“The `Browse Inside’ feature for the iPhone is part of the ongoing effort to advance technology and allows mobile consumers to tap into the power and convenience of online book discovery,” Craig A. Miller, general manager of LibreDigital, said in a statement. “We are excited to be a part of it.”

Harper Collins currently has 10,000 titles available digitally.
