The iPod Has Become The Pocket Mobile Computer

Apple sent out invitations to numerous publications and high profile people to invite them to a special September 5th event labeled “The beat goes on.”

The invite showed a silhouetted dancer holding an iPod fueling the ever increasing expectations that Apple would be announcing a new line iPods. Ipods that may finally be “a mini-computer in your pocket”.

Apple did just that releasing the iTouch - the iPhone without the phone but with the same Safari web capabilities and the same iPod capabilities for a price that is affordable to all.

The iTouch features the iPhone’s famous touch screen and has the same heralded mobile web applications. So as long as you can find a wi-fi hotspot you can zip through the web just like on your home PC. The catch is finding the hot spot. Even with AT&T’s slower Edge network access to the web through the iPhone is more accessible than through the iTouch but nevertheless the iTouch is nothing short of fabulous.

The only other drawback to the iTouch is the limited storage. The iTouch has only 8Gb and 16GB of storage available vs the iPod Classic’s 80GB and whopping 160GB. Nevertheless the added advantage of having the web in your pocket it is probably worth having to download and upload a little more often.

The iTouch is available on the Apple website for pre-orders with the first shipments being released on September 28th.

The cost is just $299 for the 8Gb and $399 for the 16GB.
