“Apple Faithful” Feel Screwed By Jobs W/ iPhone Price Cut
09.06.07 - 01:37pm
Steve Jobs brought out a whole new line of iPods out to show the world yesterday to great fanfare and excitement, he did however do “one more thing”, he dropped the price of the iPhone $200. Great for all the wanna be iPhone owners and a slap in the face for those who had just purchased one.
Especially upset are the Apple fan faithful who waited outside the store for up to five days to be one of the first to own an iPhone and to be one of the first to feel ripped off of $200 bucks and five days of time.
Near the end of Jobs 85-minute speed he said, “The customer satisfaction numbers are higher for the iPhone than for any Apple product ever. They love it. But we want to make the iPhone even more affordable for even more people this holiday season, so we’re going to do something about that today. We’re not going to sell it for $599 anymore.”
Instead the price was dropped from $599 for the 8G to $399, a whopping $200 less. Leaving all Apple faithful feeling Apple duped.
The duped users flooded Apple’s forums with comments;
“Having paid full price for my iPhone not more than 2 moths [sic] ago, I am shocked that a price drop was announced so quickly,” said Ryan Shannon. “Not only was the drop in price surprising, but the amount in which it dropped was staggering to say the least. I demand an explanation.”
Over time I have owned a 3G iPod, original shuffle, iBook G4, iMac, new shuffle, 4G iPod, video iPod, iPod mini and now the iPhone,” Dawgfan said. “I can see updates to the product line being made over time but $200 in two months is a kick in the nads to EVERYONE who bought an iPhone.”
“As a VP in marketing the [price cut] is just a bad strategy for future releases,” said Jean-Laurent-Vilon. “I would have understood a release of a new iPhone model at the same price but a price drop sends [a] bad signal to their customer base. I find this move from Apple very weird.”
The comments however are most likely in vain as Jobs doesn’t seem at all moved by the protests. Jobs was asked by USA Today after the announcement, about what he would say to customers who purchased an iPhone before the price cut, he said, “That’s technology. If they bought it this morning, they should go back to where they bought it and talk to them. If they bought it a month ago, well, that’s what happens in technology.”
