Going Out of the Country/Leave Your iPhone At Home!

The iPhone is cool, fun to have and face it - may get you out of a tight situation in a strange country because others think its cool - nevertheless, unless you want your $3,000 dollar trip to be doubled when you get home - don’t take it! Or if you do, make sure you get a roaming plan and make sure you’re clear about the charges of that plan.
Dave Stolte took his iPhone on a two-week trip to Ireland and England. He signed up for a roaming plan but said the representative’s explanation of charges was unclear. His bill was $3,000.
Aaron Oxley took his iPhone to London, Dubai and Bangkok. Aware of the international roaming charges he only used his phone in Wi-Fi areas. The bill was still $300, which a representative told Mr Oakley was because even though he was using Wi-Fi there was still data transfer charges.
One way to get around some of the charges should you bring your iPhone is to disable your e-mail feature so the phone won’t routinely check for messages.
Neil Dingman, who took a vacation to Europe, took the iPhone and used it only a handful of times. His bill was $852.31 due to the automatic checks. Even though he didn’t use his phone much it still went to retrieve e-mail more than 500 times.
Jay Levey says his family took three iPhone’s on a Mediterranean cruise. They say they didn’t use the phones, but due to the phones regular e-mail updates (updates made even while off so the messages will be there when you turn it on), Levy’s bill for the three iPhone was $4,800.
