Vodaphone Sets Bar High for iPhone

Vodaphone had decided not to go “quietly into the good night” and instead is challenging Apple with an “all you want music service” and with a rampant release of 19 new phones for the Christmas season.

Vodaphone is the major rival to O2 in the UK. O2 is basically set for the iPhone contract and Vodaphone does not about to sit back and watch its users switch over to their rival - not without a fight.

Vodaphone is attempting to challenge Apple’s iPhone before it gets to Europe by giving users access to all the music they want, downloadable to their phone for just 1.99 GBP a week.

The music will be delivered by Omnnifone’s MusicStation via the Vodafone Live Internet portal. Over one million songs will be available through Universal, EMI, Sony and Warner.

Analysts are seeing the move for thousands of free downloads at a flat rate as serious competition to any other cell-phone carriers in Europe, even the one holding the precious iPhone.

The music through the subscription service will be playable only by the subscribers phone, but will be able to be upgraded to new phones without losing any of the users music as long as the user is subscribed.

If a user wishes to play the song on other player they can buy it for 99p a track.

Vodafone new range of 19 handsets will also be directly aimed at the iPhone. The phones will support the faster 3G network and will include 2 phones from Blackberry and 15 internet phones from the likes of Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
