Zune’s Black Friday Surprise

Black Friday was full of surprises and the one that no even thought to expect was: The Zune beat out the iPod in top selling online products. That’s right folks, in fact, the iPod didn’t even make it to the top ten!
This is the list:

Speculators over the surprise second best selling Zune have said that it is in part due to the extremely low price of the first 30GB Zune which has been selling below $100 (old price $249), the new upgrades to the Zune which the old Zune can get free, and the new look and feel of the new Zunes. The old and new Zunes were both selling at about the same rate for the holiday weekend.
The second big surprise of Black Friday was that online shopping was an obvious choice vs/ fighting with your neighbor over the lone Spiderman toy left. Rather people went online in droves jumping up 22 percent from last year, spending over $531 million.
The third surprise was that people began shopping on Thanksgiving with online sales jumping 29 percent over last year.
Cyber monday is still expected to top the lot. 72.2 percent of online retailers have planned a special promotion for the day with an expected 68.5 million people expected to shop. “Based on the growth rate we have seen so far this season and historical consumer behavior patterns, we would expect Cyber Monday sales to be even stronger than Black Friday’s and to exceed $700 million,” said ComScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni in a statement. “While this would make it the heaviest online shopping day on record, we can expect to see even stronger days ahead as the 2007 shopping season progresses into December.”
