iPhone Sales - Good & Not So Good.

Steve Jobs announced at MacWorld 2008 that the iPhone was selling quite well having reached over 400,000 in just six months. It has however missed it’s goal in the U.K. by 10,000 and in France by 30,000.

ukiphone.jpgSales were predicted to hit 200,000 in the first two months in Britain and were close, landing at 190,000. Unfortunately for Apple, when the initial 200,000 was predicted by 02, (licensed seller of the iPhone in Britian), many analysts thought that it was forecasted low so that O2 would then be able to show-off incredible success when sales were significantly higher. No one expected it to fall below the mark.

O2 and CarphoneWarehouse who sell the iPhone in Britian both refused to comment on the lower than anticipated sales figures. O2 simply said they were, “delighted with the response to the iPhone, which has seen unprecedented levels of customer satisfaction”. They also said the iPhone was their fastest selling phone by a “significant margin”.

The iPhone has had similar selling problems in France, with just 70,000 iPhone’s selling in the first month. France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard had stated back in November that the company was hoping to sell 100,000 by the end of the year.
