iPhone Users Suffer AT&T Data Blackout Error
02.01.08 - 12:04pm
AT&T has been the scapegoat for much of the iPhone problems since the network first acquired the device. Yesterday’s data access failure due to GGSN feed problems won’t help any.
The Southeast and Midwest were the effected regions of the “blackouts” The company said calling and voice mail were still working, just no data was accessible.
The problem had to do with the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) which acts as a gateway between a GPRS wireless data network and other networks such as the internet. The problems began around 6:30 a.m. EST and were fixed around 4:00.
The company says they still don’t know what caused the problem and apologized for any inconvenience to customers. “Our first priority was to get the service running again,” said Meghan Roskopf, an AT&T spokeswomen. “We are now looking for causes.”
The Blackberry was also one of the phones that was affected along with other smart phones running on the network.
