The Shuffle Gets A Price Drop
02.20.08 - 03:27pm
The much loved 1GB iPod Shuffle will now be just $49, with a new 2GB Shuffle going for $69, still below the old price of $79.
Some analysts are ripping into the price drop saying it is a sign of Apple losing dominance. “The music market is starting to fracture and Apple will be seeing increased competition. It’s going to get ugly out there,” said Charles King, principal analyst with Pund-IT. “Apple’s had a great run, but the global market is going to get pretty interesting.”
Wall Street doesn’t seem to have any concerns about the price drop however, as Apples stock rose slightly today up $1.64 from its start of $121.68.
“At just $49 the iPod shuffle is the most affordable iPod ever”, said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing. “The new 2GB model lets music lovers bring even more songs everywhere they go in the impossibly small iPod shuffle.”
The $49 1GB Shuffle is available now at Apple stores and retailers everywhere. The $69 2GB Shuffle will be available later this month.
