iQ Plays Your Piano Through Your iPod

For anyone who has the space and room to place a beautiful sweeping grand piano, getting the new iQ would seem to be almost like getting fries to go with your hamburger, or shoes to match your dress, a simple ‘of course’ - one goes with the other - after all when you’re having that hi-stepping cocktail party you really will not have time to actually play the piano for your guests, yet you may still want to show off your exquisite 70,000 Steinway Grand. Hence steps in the iQ.

The iQ is from the makers of PianoDisc, and it is a dock that will retrofit your piano to respond to almost any digital device, especially anything Apple. Basically you dock your iPod and the piano plays whatever you have on your iPod, whether it is the Beastie Boys or Wagner. (think piano playing by itself in the mall, gone super hi-tech - no more elevator tunes!)

Creative Releases Half Price Shuffle Competition

After reporting another net loss (fourth in five quarters) Creative sources said that they were aiming to recoup lost revenue by generating more iPod accessories. Yet it would appear Creative is still aiming to compete with Apple rather than promote them with accessories as they have announced the launch of their new small-capacity MP3 player with the same amount of storage as the Shuffle, but for half the price.

Called the Zen Stone the player will store 250 to 500 songs depending on the bitrate chosen, in MP3 or WMA format. The battery lasts for about 10 hours.

The player will retail for around $39.99, while the shuffle retails for around $79. The Stone will be available in black, red, pink, blue, green or white. The Shuffle is available in white, pink, blue, green or orange.

Ipod Going Zune Style With WiFi

The Zune was the first to come out with Wi-Fi in a little music device and while it certainly didn’t make it overpower the iPod in any way it did point out a distinct feature the iPod lacked. Now rumors are abounding that the iPod will be releasing a Wi-Fi enabled iPod in the second half of 2007.

According to reports from Digitimes the new iPods’ Wi-Fi modules will be produced by Universal Scientific Industrial and Foxconn will perform as the OEM assembler.

A Wi-Fi iPod is almost a must as competition is heating up in the world of MP3 players. Even as Apple was patting itself on the back for breaking the 100 million mark of iPods sold, SanDisk was releasing their new MP3 player which allows users to wirelessly download songs through a Wi-Fi network, and gives them access with an $11.99 monthly paid subscription to as many songs as they wish to download.

The iPod Tops 100M, But Is It Still #1?

The iPod has grown into a fashion icon - the “American Idol” of music players, yet even as Apple celebrates reaching 100 million in iPod sales there is new competition that is threatening to overthrow it and maybe already has.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice-president of hardware marketing said at the celebration, “I don’t think any of us could ever have dreamt that we could come this far this fast.” A true statement as Apple has grown from a questionable company with 5 billion in yearly sales in 2001 to a immensely successful company boldly commanding 23 billion in yearly sales in 2006. A rise made on the back of the iPod with over half of those sales coming from the iPod and its counterpart iPod store: iTunes.

iPod & Driving = Hazard!

It’s a bit obvious that fiddling for a song on your iPod and trying to keep your eyes on the road while driving creates a conondrum. This, however, is the first time we have actual research depicting the problem

Drexel University is the first to complete a study on the effects of using the iPod and driving at the same time. “These findings serve as a first step toward understanding the potential effects of a portable music-player interaction on driver behavior and performance,” said Dario Salvucci, a Drexel University professor respresenting the study. “Surprisingly, despite the plethora of research on driver distraction, there have been no studies to date of how interaction with a portable music player may affect driver performance.”

In the study they had 12 people with iPod experience, drive and play three types of iPod media: music, informational podcasts or video. They also tested the drivers after they were done to find out how much of what they were hearing or listening to they actually took in. 84 percent of the participants understood or could remember what they heard or saw.

iPod Sales Expected to Double

The iPod has already sold over 70 million units and is now expected to double that between 2005 and 2010.

The iPod/MP3 player market is only just beginning according research done by iSuppli, a provider of market intelligence and advice.

In a written report iSupply wrote, “The Portable Media Players (PMP)/MP3 players represents one of the fastest-growing segments of the consumer electronics industry today.”

There were a 178.1 million units sold in 2006 and iSuppli predicts that this number will rise this year to 216.9 million units. They expect that in 2011 the number will be up to 268.6 million units, expanding at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 13%.

The iPod sold 46.4 million units in 2006, dominating the market at 26% of the global share.

iPod Mixer & Recorder

The iPod is fast becoming the new DJ mixer as digital music is overtaking the traditional vinyl mixing. It can be simpler and easier to mix music digitally not to mention those now unnecessary milk crates full of vinyl records and Alesis has launched a new iMultiMix 8 USB which is a compact all-in-one tabletop mixer and recorder.

The iMultiMix 8 is the first in their line of mixers to feature integrated iPod control and recording capabilities. The mixer also offers 48V phantom power, four high-gain mic/line pre-amps, has a built-in limiter to avoid distorted recordings, two guitar mic/line inputs, aux sends and returns, three band per channel EQ with high/low shelving and mid band pass/reject.

Eight channels 44.1-192kHz audio are connected directly to your computer via ultra-fast low-latency FireWire connectivity. The mixer also has an additional 18 inputs of digital audio that are possible.

Wear Your Shuffle On Your Head And Hear It Without Speakers Or Earphones!

These days wearing those little white earbuds can be a health hazard as more and more people are getting accosted while walking or jogging to some tunes. One also can get into a tangled mess trying to cross streets in traffic with bass pouding in your ears shutting out all other sounds. Thanko has solved both problems with their Vonia Sports Headband BCT - a fully integrated system for almost any MP3 player that makes the headphones utterly unnecessary.

The headwrap uses BCT (bone conduction technology). BTC conveys the vibration of the sound through your skull directly to your audiotry nerve, bypassing the tympanic membrane. Basically you can hear the music without your ears!

This leaves your ears free to hear all the other noises, such as the car coming at you. You could even still hear your boss at work although he might wonder at your choice of fashion accessories.

Vest With Speakers - Play Your iPod, Play Your Sports!

We just had an iPod jacket for work, now we have an iPod jacket for play. Soundwalk MP3 is for everyone who wishes to jam to the iPod or MP3 player while skateboarding, bike riding, or even running at night.

The Soundwalk MP3 vest not only lets you listen to your music with headphones it also lets you listen to music without them (a good thing, especially riding as you can then still hear the cars whizzing up behind you). It does this through light-weight amplified speakers on each shoulder strap. This also makes for the coolest movin’ tunes that everyone can hear if you’re our skateboarding with your buddies, or shootin’ some hoops.

The cool vest has a spot for your cell-phone as well and with just the touch of a button allows you to toggle between the two.

Another big bonus (especially when rock climbing!); no wires!

Shower Surround Sound!

How? Well, you pair the Wireless Water Resistant Speaker System with the Every Audio Shower Mirror and you have yourself one heck of a showering good time

Heck with a two speaker system no one will even mind your off key rendition of “Singing in the Rain” cause they’ll only be able to hear the good guy!

The speaker system works as the water resistant speakers receive a wireless signal from your nicely docked iPod (even when the speakers are getting dripped on by splashes from the shower). All iPods are compatible, and the speakers work within a 150 ft. range of the docking station.

Now, to incorporate the snazzy mirror - the Every Audio Shower Mirror was released last year and can play music from any MP3 player, CD player, stereo system or television within a 100 ft. range. Thus while your iPod is plugged nicely into the mirror transmitter and at the same time is tucked away safely charging in the iPod dock, you are free to rock out to the music being played on speakers blaring directly in your shower and all around your shower.
