Can you imagine - “Sir, you crossed the street with your iPod and earbuds in, that will be a $100 fine or you can take it up in court.” says the policeman handing you the ticket.
That’s exactly what New York State Sen. Carl Kruger wants and he has introduced legislation to ban, not only the use of iPods, but Blackberry’s, cell phones, smart phones, gaming devices, - pretty much anything on New York city streets.
“Government has an obligation to protect its citizenry,” Kruger said in a telephone interview from Albany, the state capital. “This electronic gadgetry is reaching the point where it’s becoming not only endemic but it’s creating an atmosphere where we have a major public safety crisis at hand.”
Kruger started the legislation following the deaths of three pedestrians in his Brooklyn district, killed after stepping into traffic while distracted by an electronic device. In one case bystanders screamed “watch out” to no avail.

It would appear that while Vista is finally compatible with the Zune, it is now able to destroy the iPod. Could Microsoft really be hoping to boost Zune sales in such a way?
Apple has stated on the firm’s support website that upgrading to the new Vista may cause songs purchased to not be able to be played and may even destroy the iPod.
“Ejecting an iPod from the Windows System Tray using the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ feature may corrupt your iPod,” Apple said in the statement. Instead it recommends “to always safely eject an iPod, choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.”
Apple did state that Windows Vista may work on many typical PC’s but contends that the problem is serious enough to not recommend the installation of Vista yet.
Apple is currently working on an update that will make the iPod compatible with the new Vista operating system. The release is said to be made available in the next few weeks.

A new waterproof iPod case has hit the market complete with rubber bumper guards perfect for hitting that shark over the head when taking a swim in ocean waters.
The Ego (not to be confused with Lett-go my Ego Waffles) won the 2007 CES Innovations Award for Excellence in Engineering and Design for producing the first fully waterproof iPod case that floats in water.
It has high powered speakers protected by bumper guards and a waterproof bass venting port for optimum sound quality. The click-wheel is accessible via a waterproof clickwheel membrane.
When you’re lounging in your pool, you can view your iPod video through a crystal clear window while letting it drift in the water as it floats peacefully along. The speakers and iPod are powered by 4 AA batteries providing 30 hours of playtime.
The case also offers a shatterproof polycarbonate body and a shock absorbing compartment to protect the iPod. (Don’t know why you need shatterproof in the water but it will protect against Uncle Buck’s misplaced cannonball).

Professor Fan-Gang Zeng, from the University of California, noticed a phenomenon happening among his students. The phenomenon wasn’t students getting superb grades or suddenly being able to jump buildings. The phenomenon was hearing loss. Hearing loss that normally wouldn’t be seen until his students were 50 or 60.
Professor Zeng works in boi-medical engineering and is a researcher specializing in hearing loss. He has seen cases of hearing loss in all of his classes for the past two years. The only thing that he’s seen change in the lifestyle of his students, for that two years, is the use of iPods or MP3 players.
“We can’t say for sure it’s from MP3 players, but I don’t know what else has changed,” said Zeng, “The climate and the food are the same.”
“Earbuds” such as the little white ones that have become synonymously famous with the iPod can be played much louder than earphones with previous technologies due to digital sound. Digital sound lets you turn it up, way up, without distortion. Also earbuds are directly in the ear canal allowing no sound to escape.

Instead of their two front teeth, kids are asking for the iPod.
In Galveston county a group of almost 300 fifth-graders was surveyed and asked to name their top three most wanted holiday gifts. The iPod, not surprisingly won, followed by video game systems and other electronic gadgets.
Eleven year-old Anthony Grey answered the question of why, saying “(The iPod) is special because lots of kids like to listen to hip-hop music. You can download any music on there — even pictures.” He also liked that it works with his MySpace page adding that “It’s the best gift a child could ask for.
Children do love the iPods and the most requested seems to be the iPod Nano for $149. The Nano plays music and showcases photos and album art. The Shuffle is the least expensive and the newest, hottest iPod this season, for only $79, but only plays music. The iPod Video for $249, is the most versatile, allowing music, photos and video.
