Dealers Jealous Over the iPhone

Dealers of Apple products are not happy that they are not included in the iPhone mania craze by being excluded from selling the iPhone in their stores as reported by TWICE.

CE in particular is upset as they have built their reputations as dealers by being the first to stock and demonstrate new technology. They said they have called Apple repeatedly but have received no time frame for open distribution.

“We’re the guys that sell the 103-inch Plasma TV from Panasonic. (NYSE:MC) We were one of the first retailers to carry Sonos. We have the know-how and customer base to sell the iPhone,” said Tom Galanis, merchandising VP for 6th Avenue Electronics, Springfield, N.J. He added, “A cellphone store is a cellphone store. My feeling is they are shooting themselves in the foot … Apple would be better served by picking a few higher-end retailers that have a track record of selling high-end technology.”

Apple Red or Green?

Apple is going greener and while Greenpeace is still not satisfied, Jobs in an open letter posted on the Apple website did well to justify where Apple currently is and where it is going.

Apple has taken much grief over the past year from Greenpeace and environmentalists, mainly because they have refused to acknowledge what it is they are doing to go greener but as stated in the letter Jobs wrote, “today we’re changing our policy.”

Apple states that it is taking steps to eliminate toxic chemicals in its computers by going to LED backlit display, as well as no longer using flame-retardant chemicals and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in any products. Apple is also working to get rid of mercury in its monitor backlighting as soon as it becomes “technically and economically feasible”.

Multi-touch Technology Could Be More Important Than The iPod

Apple stock is currently selling for 89.12 after the iPod jump helped leap it from lows in the $30’s. Analysts have continued to raise the target price on Apple since Christmas with new products such as Apple TV and the much publicized iPhone soon to hit the market.

USB anaylst Ben Reitzes believes Apple’s multi-touch display technology on the iPhone could become more important than the iPod, as the technology is incorporated into other Apple products and could lead to a touch-screen revolution. He wrote “We believe this ‘Mega-Platform’ could help Apple become an ‘open-ended’ growth story once again with a logical chronology of new products for years to come. We expect multi-touch to be prevalent in Apple’s major hardware products within three to five years — making its way into touch-screen Macs next year. We also expect new touch-screen video iPods, ultra portables, more phones and possibly even TVs in the future.”
