Apple has done it! They have reached the $200 dollar mark accomplished today, one day after Christmas.
Apple has always shown a performance jump as it heads into the new year, fresh off the holiday sale of iPods, iPhones, Macs and the anticipation of new announcements at MacWorld. This year has proven to be exceptional with the stock jumping 140 percent in 2007 and with Apple finally reaching the coveted $200 mark.
A huge increase in Mac sales have accounted for the majority of Apples increase in revenue for the year. The computer sales have been boosted by the high publicity of the iPhone and the new iPods. 2007 has brought Mac shipments up 36 percent over last year generating half the of Apple’s total revenue. iPod sales are up as well, but due to the proliferation of the market sales have only increased 4 percent with over a 100 million iPods being sold.

It would appear that the iPhone and the iPod are the “hot” items for the holiday season in Europe as well as the U.S. ComScore, a digital market research firm, tracked the frequency of online searches in the U.K., France, and Germany and reported that combined the highest searched items were; #1 Nintendo Wii, #2 iPod, #3 Nintendo DS Lite, #4 Playstation PSP, #5 iPhone. The iPod nano was ranked at #7, giving Apple three of the top 10 products.
The iPod in the #2 position had a total of 3.5 million searches. The iPhone while taking #5 of the electrical gadgets was #1 in mobile phone searches with 707,000 weekly searches.
“We know that music players, game consoles, and mobile phones are very popular with consumers this year,” said Bob Ivins, comScore EVP of European Markets. “The interesting aspect of this study is identifying which products are generating the most consumer searches, which can provide retailers and manufacturers with important insight into the underlying consumer demand for each specific product.”

The iPod is ramping up in sales for the holiday season according to a Bloomberg report, in spite of the slowdown in the economy and the tightening of the credit market.
“Demand for tech products remains healthy, with strength in notebooks and iPods somewhat offset by weaker demand for desktops,” wrote Bear Stearns analyst Andrew J. Neff in a note to investors.
Stearns conducted a retail survey over three days and found that stores were having trouble keeping iPods in stock in spite of improved availability over last year.
Along with the demands of the iPod, stores are also seeing a great demand of Macs, and the iPhone. “We see Apple’s story becoming stronger and evolving from a company dependent on one hit product to one with multiple growth engines” said Neff. “Mac product cycle continues to gain momentum following the migration to Intel-based CPUs, along with very competitive pricing, OS refresh, and expanding distribution.”

Black Friday was full of surprises and the one that no even thought to expect was: The Zune beat out the iPod in top selling online products. That’s right folks, in fact, the iPod didn’t even make it to the top ten!
This is the list:
1. Nintendo Wii Console
2. Microsoft Zune 30GB Media Player - Brown
3. TomTom ONE 3rd Edition GPS
4. Activision Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock Bundle
5. Canon PowerShot SD1000 Silver Digital Camera
6. Microsoft Office 2004 Student and Teacher
7. Western Digital My Book Essential Edition External 500GB Hard Drive
8. Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS
9. Canon PowerShot SD750 Digital Camera
10. Canon EOS Regel XTi Black SLR Digital Camera
Speculators over the surprise second best selling Zune have said that it is in part due to the extremely low price of the first 30GB Zune which has been selling below $100 (old price $249), the new upgrades to the Zune which the old Zune can get free, and the new look and feel of the new Zunes. The old and new Zunes were both selling at about the same rate for the holiday weekend.

The report that first came out in 2006 detailing the appalling working conditions of Chinese laborers working for Foxconn and by default Apple to produce iPods, was a story that was quickly shutdown. Word has now come out of China from undercover reporters of why and how.
China has longed suppressed all information coming into the country controlling the news, media and print with zeal. When the internet first came into play, information began to filter through to the Chinese people. In order to combat this crack in the Chinese wall on information, before it could break through and become a flood, China set up cyber-police to monitor all activity of internet users.
In the 17-page report just released by the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders, allegations are made that there are tens of thousands of these Chinese cyber-police who often send text messages dictating to writers what they can, and what they can not write about.

What do they all have in common - Well the story goes like this.
A young girl was happily opening her presents for her 14th birthday party in Fort Worth, Texas. When she got to the big present, the one she had so faithfully been waiting for, she opened it up with excited eyes and trembling hands. Only to find out that while the box read iPod, what it really contained inside the shrink wrap was - rocks.
Needless to say neither her nor her mother, Melanie Ritter, was too happy with the discovery and promptly took it back to Target where Ms. Ritter had purchased the iPod box of rocks. But alas, Target did not have a replacement for the $350 iPod box of rocks, as they were all out of stock.

Since Apple has just released a whole new iPod line, news of a possible redesigned Zune just seems to fall very very flat. Nevertheless rumors of a possible new Zune are out there - thinner with a two-tone translucent rubberized finish and what looks like a touch pad rather than a click wheel for navigation.
There has also been speculation of a new Zune phone possibly coming out for the holiday season. Many think that a Zune phone would be a good way for it to capture the technology that Microsoft already has a hold of such as Voip and good old Windows. (A phone with the windows browser - do you really want all those viruses on your phone????)(It would make for some great iPhone vs Zune phone ads!)

The Sansa View is the newest competition to the 3G Nano sporting a cheaper price and higher storage, but is it enough?
Both players have the same 320×240 resolution display, but the Sansa View has a slightly larger screen boasting 2.4 inches to the 3G’s 2 inches.
While the new Sansa View is the thinnest of their players coming in at 8.8 mm the 3G wins with just 6.5 mm.
