Are you a game designer looking for a new job - now is the time with Apple who appears to be making their next foray one of breaking into the world of gaming.
Apple is asking for their Apple trademark to now include “handheld units for playing electronic games, handheld units for playing videogames, stand-alone video game machines, LCD game machines, and electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only. They are also advertising for a new “game producer/designer to develop consumer entertainment software.”
Whether or not Apple will simply be going into the iPod/iPhone gaming realm or whether they are once again going to release a multimedia console is anyone’s guess. Apple released a console called Apple Pippin in the mid-90’s but wasn’t able to make it work. This was of course before Steve Jobs came back on board. Having Jobs there this time changes everything.

It would seem At&T is not quite as good at keeping mum as Apple is about new and upcoming releases. Whether “accidentally on purpose” or just by accident AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson has let the cat out of the bag and put an end to the speculation that a 3G iPhone will be available this next year. According to him, it definitely will be. Stephenson spilled the news at a dinner, late Wednesday at the Churchill Club, in Santa Clara. He did not go as far as to say when, stating simply that it will be sometime this next year.
This could possible see a slow-down in the sales of iPhones over the Christmas season. After all why buy the slower one when it’s possible a new 3G one could be announced as soon as MacWorld. Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray doesn’t believe it will effect sales “enough to make a difference”, but still you can bet Apple and Mr. Steve Jobs wasn’t too happy about the pre-announcement at this particular time.

In an abrupt turnaround Steve Jobs has announced that he will be welcoming all third party applicants to the iPhone. Perhaps the change is partially in response to heated up competition, such as the new HTC Touch from Sprint - open to third party apps, and perhaps it is in part to the continued flack he has gotten from the application building community and iPhone users over the issue.
It was only a couple weeks ago, that a update to the iPhone, 1.1.1, not only bricked any unlocked phones but made any third party applications obsolete.
Some of those application’s such as one’s to make the iPhone’s e-mail work better, was much loved by the iPhone community, and they weren’t happy to have it taken away.
“Let me just say it: We want native third-party applications on the iPhone. We are excited about creating a vibrant third-party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users,” said Steve Jobs in a open letter he has posted on the Apple web site.

Steve Jobs is know for his genius marketing and for quietly slipping through the investigation in the stock options backdating scandal that Apple has been under fire for.
It is not over yet however, as Jobs has been subpoenaed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to give deposition in the civil stock-options backdating case involving Nancy Heinen, Apple’s former general counsel. Heinen, is considered by many to be the fall guy for Apple.
“It’s unfortunate that Nancy Heinen is being sued,” said Jesse Fried, a professor at Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley and co-director of the Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy. “She did not have as much to gain from this backdating as Jobs did. She was presumably doing what she was asked to do or what she believed she was asked to do by Steve Jobs. I think that she may have served as a fall person.”

Steve Jobs may only have a $1 million dollar yearly salary but this week he exercised stock options which are worth $13.7 million.
The options would have expired on August 14th but Steve Jobs exercised the options in time buying 120,000 shares for $5.75 a piece, according to a regulatory filing.
The options were given to Jobs under a 1997 plan for directors, given before Jobs become ineligible for director’s grants after returning to CEO of the company the same year.
The options are not worth quite as much as they were a couple weeks ago however after falling from highs in the 150’s to $113 today.
So far today the stock has droped over $6 falling over 5 percent. This is not from Apple’s lack of productivity or creating awesome products but rather from turmoil in the credit markets especially in the home mortgage area.
