With the holiday shopping spree coming up wireless carriers and cell phone providers are desperately trying to come up with a device that will compete with Apple’s iPhone. Problem is, everything seems to fall just a little flat.
Verizon is trying to release competitive products by using new LG and Samsung phones. They are also trying to make the iPhone seem less impervious. “The Apple iPhone shook things up. If you look closely at the iPhone, it’s just an ordinary phone in an extraordinary package,” said Jeff Kagan, a wireless and telecom industry analyst. “That’s what this Verizon Wireless phone is doing. It is competing with the iPhone in this segment of the cell phone marketplace. It is Verizon’s answer to AT&T’s and Apple’s iPhone. I fully expect Sprint, T-Mobile, and a variety of other carriers — large and small — to come out with their version.”

No one seems too impressed with the supposed score Verizon’s online music store made over Apple by signing them to an exclusive agreement. The reason no one is too impressed - well Verizon and AC/DC seem to be ripping off the customers.
There are a couple drawbacks to purchasing anything AC/DC from Verizon and that is;
First and foremost you can only purchase the songs as albums except for the one single “You Shook Me All Night Long” and they are expensive albums. At least more expensive then Amazon’s $9.97, instead you will pay through good old Verizon $11.99. (Tell me again why pay more for crappy downloaded DRM infected music when you can just buy the CD and rip it to wherever you want.)

Verizon has stated that while initially it did lose customers to AT&T after the launch of the iPhone, it is no longer.
COO Denny Stigle said, “We are now seeing two Verizon Wireless customers in for every one we lose.”
Initially AT&T said that it gained 58,400 customers from it’s rivals estimating that 40% of the initial 146,000 customers came from other carriers.
While this may have leveled off, at least according to Verizon, industry experts are saying that it is unlikely the iPhone phenomenon is over. The holidays are expected to be extremely lucrative for the iPhone as it is expected to top wish lists.
